Robert Longo(pictured here). What can I say about this jaw droppingly amazing artist. Normally, I would speak of his unmatched abilities to make a charcoal or acrylic piece look like a photograph, or even that he has hundreds of these amazing works- but i dont even have words for his genius. He not only has the artistic abillity of Michaelangelo and DaVinci combined, but his works have meaning behind them.
Men In the Cities, his most plangent body of work by far (all done in charcoal). Businessmen and women contorted in diferent positions,
seemingly torn apart by their own minds. Longo was quoted as saying "I think I make art for brave eyes. I don't want to make art that will pat you on the back and tell you everything is going to be okay. I want to make something that's much more confronting. You don't look at it, it looks at you as much as you look at it."He by far is my favorite artist, just by the sheer way I feel when I look at his artwork. I could stare at them for hours, because their is always another corner or another layer that you might have missed. Once again the simplistic nature, with the juxtaposition of the the contrasting black white and grey. Its simplicity gives birth to new layers of depth.
